Frequently asked questions
Starting your counselling journey is a big step, and it’s normal to have questions, especially about online therapy.
Here, I’ll answer some common questions I've been asked to help you feel more at ease with the process. My approach is rooted in quality and integrity, ensuring that everything I do reflects my commitment to helping you feel valued and in control of your therapy.
Do you only work with neurodivergent clients?
No, I work with anyone over the age of 16. Whilst I am neurodivergent myself, and specialise in working with neurodivergent clients, I have worked with many neurotypical clients covering a variety of topics.

Do you work with expats?
I am insured to work online with British expatriates offering "wellbeing counselling" in countries where my qualifications are in line with the local jurisdiction. If you are an expat looking for an English counsellor, please get in touch with where you are living and I will investigate the possibility for us to work together.
Is everything I say in session confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is paramount in our sessions at Te Video Counselling. I adhere to strict ethical guidelines to ensure that everything discussed remains private. There are very rare exceptions, such as if there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or others, which would always be discussed with you first. Your trust and privacy are fundamental to our work.
Rest assured, any limits to confidentiality will be disclosed in writing and explored before you begin therapy.
All records are kept within GDPR guidelines on the carepatron system (encrypted and more secure than storing on PC or paper).
Can I swear during sessions?
Absolutely, I encourage you to be yourself and express your thoughts and feelings authentically. It’s important to foster a space where you feel comfortable revealing your true self.
I believe that swearing can effectively convey strong emotions and important messages, and I don't shy away from it. However, I also recognise that some individuals may find swearing inappropriate for expressing their feelings. My commitment is to meet you where you are, without judgment.
Will I get homework?
My person-centred approach means every session is individualised for you. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all model or mandatory "homework." Instead, you might choose to explore somatic or creative aspects between sessions, or suggested reflections that naturally arise from our discussions, always tailored to your pace and needs. My focus is on helping you feel truly seen and understood, fostering your authentic growth.
Why Pay for Therapy?
The demand for counselling and psychotherapy services has reached unprecedented levels, resulting in lengthy waiting lists and limited options for suitable talking therapies through the NHS and charitable organisations. Typically, the NHS offers predominantly Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for a duration of 6-8 weeks, which often falls short for individuals needing more time to delve into and understand the root of their challenges. Additionally, many staff members may be solely trained in CBT, restricting the variety of therapies available.
One significant advantage of opting for private therapy is the immediate availability of services. Depending on their qualifications, therapists can tailor various therapeutic approaches to meet your unique needs, and you can engage in sessions for as long as necessary. In contrast, when accessing services through the NHS or charities, you often have little choice regarding your assigned counsellor or psychotherapist. Research consistently underscores that the therapeutic relationship—the connection between client and therapist—is the most crucial factor in effective therapy.
Competent and ethical counsellors and psychotherapists are committed to ongoing training and supervision, investing time and resources to enhance the quality of their services. This dedication ensures that therapy remains ethical, relevant, and evidence-based.
For every hour spent with clients, I dedicate an hour or more to research, preparation, and reflective practice and to guarantee that my practice is safe and effective, I engage in monthly personal supervision and peer support sessions.
Does my choice of Sliding Scale Fee reflect the service I will receive?
Absolutely not, you will receive the same professional service from me regardless of how much you pay for your sessions. The sliding scale is there to support people in accessing and sustaining therapy and holds no impact to the service I offer every individual I work with.
What do I need to know about booking my first session?
Before you can book your first session, please contact me to arrange a FREE no obligation 20 minute online video consultation where we can get to know one another a little and see if we are the right fit. This initial chat is a chance for you to ask any questions, understand how I work, and for us to decide if I am the right therapist for you at this time.
How do I book my session?
Once we have agreed to work together, you will receive an invite to the carepatron portal where you can set up an account, access the theraputic contract, and managed your session bookings (card payment taken at time of booking).
Carepatron is designed to be accessible, keep you in control, and limit back and forth contact to make arrangements.
Carepatron does save your payment details (on a secure encrypted server) for easy future bookings/payments. If you are not comfortable using this system, please do reach out and we can book/pay for sessions in a different way.
What happens if I need to cancel a session?
Please contact me as soon as possible if you can not attend a booked session.
If less than 48hrs notice is given before the planned session time, a 50% session fee will be charged before the next session can be booked.
(Full Cancellation policy will be shared before paying for first session)
